A 24-year-old man was arrested hours after allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Gagalangin, Tondo, in a swift police operation that led to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the filing of carnapping charges against the suspect.
Personnel of Raxabago Police Station 1 under the Manila Police District (MPD) arrested Nico Perfecto, 24, of Caloocan City, for alleged violation of Republic Act 10883, or the New Anti-Carjacking (Anti-Carnapping) Law of the Philippines.
The incident occurred along Vicente Del Fierro Street in Barangay 172, Gagalangin, Tondo, Manila.
According to the police investigation, motorcycle owner Analisa Basa, 48, a businesswoman and resident of the area, had properly parked her motorcycle outside her residence before midnight on March 3.
When she returned several hours later, she was shocked to find the vehicle missing.
Realizing the motorcycle had been taken, Basa immediately sought assistance from the Gagalangin Police Community Precinct (PCP).
Acting on the report, the arresting officers, Police Master Sergeant Michael H. Datur and Patrolman Joseph Peñaflor, promptly conducted a follow-up operation in the area.
Their efforts led to the apprehension of the suspect and the recovery of the stolen motorcycle.
At around 11:45 a.m. the same day, the complainant was brought to the police station where she positively identified the recovered motorcycle as her property.
Authorities said the suspect, who is currently unemployed, is now in custody at Raxabago Police Station 1.
A case for violation of Republic Act 10883 is being prepared for inquest proceedings before the Manila City Prosecutor’s Office.
Police reiterated their call for vehicle owners to remain vigilant and ensure proper security measures, especially when parking in residential streets.
