CEBU CITY – Two children aged 10 and nine drowned in a National Irrigation Authority (NIA) canal in Ubay, Bohol on Tuesday, March 3.
Police said Justine Etorma and John Carl Mercolesia, both Grade 3 pupils, drowned while swimming in the canal.
Police said NIA personnel discovered the victims’ bodies at 10:45 a.m.
Investigation said that the victims went to school that day but decided to go home when they were told that their teacher was on sick leave.
The two pupils decided to take dip on their way home. Their clothes were found on a pathway.
Police said a Municipal Health Officer who examined their bodies confirmed that they died of drowning.
