QC logs 77 measles cases, intensifies vaccination campaign
The Quezon City government has intensified its vaccination and surveillance efforts after recording 77 measles cases from Jan. 1 to Feb. 26, 2026, with the majority of infections affecting young children.
According to the Quezon City Epidemiology & Surveillance Division, 56 of the total cases involved children aged 10 years old and below.
District 2 recorded the highest number of cases at 38, followed by District 4 with 18 and District 6 with 13. Districts 3 and 5 logged three cases each, while District 1 recorded two cases.
No measles-related deaths have been reported.
In response, surveillance officers conducted house-to-house visits on Feb. 27 in Barangay Sto. Domingo and Barangay Talayan in District 1 after confirmed cases were reported in nearby Barangay Tatalon.
Health workers searched for children exhibiting measles symptoms and educated parents about the risks and possible complications of the highly contagious disease, particularly when left untreated.
An Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI) activity was also carried out in Barangay Sto. Domingo is to provide immediate protection to children.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Tatalon, District 4, haf at least 100 children were vaccinated against measles during a separate ORI drive conducted the same day.
Aside from administering free vaccines, health teams went door-to-door to encourage parents to ensure their children’s immunizations are up to date, protecting them against preventable diseases like measles.
City health officials urged parents to immediately bring children experiencing symptoms such as fever and rashes to the nearest health center or hospital for proper assessment and treatment.
Authorities assured residents that vaccination against measles is free, safe, and effective, as the city continues its surveillance and prevention efforts to contain the spread of the disease and protect communities, particularly young children.
