PNP eyes more tourist police units, deploy 700 motorcycles to boost PH tourism safety

The Philippine National Police is eyeing the establishment of more tourist police units and the distribution of mobility assets as part of a new initiative aimed at boosting tourist safety across the country.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr. said boosting police presence in tourist spots and other destinations includes the distribution of 700 units of motorcycles to provide a safer environment for both travelers and local businesses.
“Peace and order is one of the foundations of tourism. By deploying these 700 motorcycles, we are also expanding Filipino hospitality to mean a safe and secured rest and recreation in the Philippines,” said Nartatez.
He emphasized that the establishment of new tourist police units represents a shift toward a more agile force, “We are not just adding wheels; we are adding a layer of professional, mobile protection.”
Nartatez said the PNP seeks a more visible and proactive approach to securing world-class landmarks and the new motorcycles will allow officers to navigate crowded tourist hubs and remote scenic spots where traditional patrol cars may face limitations.
The program forms part of a broader modernization effort to professionalize the force’s response capabilities.
He then warned that the motorcycles shall be used exclusively for tourist security and patrol duties as he emphasized that their use for administrative errands, personal trips, or unauthorized VIP escorts are strictly prohibited.
