'Hoppers': When animals hop into the spotlight
By Jolo Flores
The animals rule in this movie!
Produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures and directed by Daniel Chong, ‘Hoppers’ is a 2026 animated sci-fi adventure comedy that might just be one of Pixar’s best films of all time. Yes, I said it.

The story follows animal lover Mabel Tanaka (voiced by Piper Curda), whose mind is transferred into a lifelike robotic beaver to communicate with animals and save their habitat from destruction.
This is easily Pixar’s funniest and most unhinged film in years — but beneath all the wild and chaotic energy lies a deeply empathetic heart.
This movie explores a man-versus-nature conflict where the latter fights back. It’s about protecting the environment in a rapidly developing world of buildings and expansion. And yes — it feels political in the most meaningful way.
If you’re an animal lover, you’ll be rooting for them from start to finish.
From forest councils to power struggles in the wild, Pixar builds an animal society that feels alive, funny, and emotionally grounded. I especially love the film’s creative choices in how it presents animal communication — it’s immersive, smart, and adds to the world's realism.
The voice cast is fantastic across the board. My three standouts: Curda, Bobby Moynihan as King George, and Jon Hamm as Mayor Jerry. They bring so much personality and comedic timing to their roles. Supporting performances from Kathy Najimy, Dave Franco, and Meryl Streep elevate the already stacked ensemble.
Emotionally, Mabel’s bond with her grandmother anchors the film. Their shared love for nature gives the story its soul, and one quiet line about feeling part of something bigger truly hits. The symbolism tied to a certain childhood spot is simple yet powerful.
Visually, the animation is superior, as expected from Pixar.
There are a few legit shocking moments in the movie that had the entire audience reacting loudly — chaotic cinema at its peak. And the climax of the movie is the kind of crowd-cheering payoff that reminds you why we love watching movies in theaters. Even the small decision teased near the end feels huge for the future of this world.

Hence, ‘Hoppers’ proves that Pixar can still surprise us by not just hopping but also leaping straight into one of their wildest and best films ever.
