Erice loses senior deputy minority leader post after epic rant on Anti-Political Dynasty Law

Caloocan City 2nd district Rep. Edgardo "Egay" Erice was removed as senior deputy minority leader on Tuesday afternoon, March 3, just hours after he criticized the House of Representatives' committee-level passage of the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Law.
Erice's removal was announced during plenary session Tuesday by Minority Leader 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino "Nonoy" Libanan.
Libanan named Deputy Minority Leader Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima as Erice's replacement for the "senior" position.
No one in plenary objected to Libanan's motions. The reasons for such movements are not discussed on the floor.
Earlier, Erice stormed off from the Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms hearing wherein the substitute bill for the Anti-Political Dynasty Law was approved. Despite being a proponent, Erice said he didn't want any part of the proceedings.
"Parang hindi kaya ng mukha ko na ipasa yan. Biruin mo, mas masahol pa sa kasalukuyan [sitwasyon] (It feels like my face just can’t carry that off. Imagine, it's worse than the current [situation])," the Liberal Party (LP) member said.
He claimed that the House leadership's anti-political dynasty measure, House Bill (HB) No.6771, was approved by the committee with hardly any discussion. "Inaprubahan nila eh (They approved it) without [having] debates. I don't what to be a part of this."
"Pinahirapan pa kami, pinapunta pa kami sa Cebu [para sa public consultations]. Lahat ng kabataan sa Cebu against political dynasty. So hindi binigyan ng pansin. Pasensya na talagang passionate ako because I've been fighting this for four decades.
(They even made it harder for us, sending us all the way to Cebu for public consultations. Every young person in Cebu was against political dynasties. Yet it was ignored. Forgive me, I’m truly passionate, because I’ve been fighting this for four decades.)
The veteran solon said that despite President Marcos' promise to prioritize the passage of the measure, he was convinced that a true-blue Anti Political Dynasty Law won't see the light of day.
"Mai-stall yan sa bicam, at pag na-istall yan sa bicam, hindi na yang maaaprubahan.
Kaya nga ang sabi, ang balita ko kahapon sa meeting ng party-list, uunahan na lang daw yung party-list reform [law]," he said.
(That will get stalled in the bicam, and once it’s stalled there, it won’t be approved anymore. In fact, what I heard yesterday at the party-list meeting was that they’ll just push ahead with party-list reform [law] instead.)
"Palagay ko hindi naman nila ipapasa. Parang nagpasa lang dito, nagpasa yung sa Senate, mai-stall sa bicam, hanggang hindi na ito maimplement sa 2028 elections (I don’t think they’ll pass this into law. It’s like just passed it here, the Senate passed theirs, then it gets stalled in the bicam, until eventually it won’t be implemented in the 2028 elections.)
Erice also called out the Chief Executive for his other supposed unfulfilled promises.
"Sabi ni Presidente Marcos priority niya magpakulong dahil dito sa flood control [projects mess]. Nagawa niya ba? Hindi. Bola lang. Sinabi ni presidente priority niya ‘yung independent commission. Naipasa ba? Hindi. Bola lang. Ngayon, sabi niya priority niya anti-political dynasty."
(President Marcos said his priority was to jail people over flood control projects mess. Did he do it? No. Just empty talk. He said his priority was an independent commission. Was it passed? No. Just empty talk. Now he says his priority is the anti-political dynasty measure.)
