QCPD intensifies drive vs 'Basag-kotse'; 10 suspects arrested
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) has stepped up its campaign against the “basag-kotse” modus operandi, recording significant gains in its anti-theft operations from January 2025 to February 2026.
Authorities reported a total of 20 cases of vehicle break-ins during the period. Of these, 11 were classified as solved, eight were cleared, and one case remains under investigation.
Police operations led to the arrest of 10 individuals allegedly involved in the illegal activity.
One of the latest accomplishments was a hot pursuit operation conducted by the Pasong Putik Police Station (PS 16), which resulted in the arrest of two suspects.
The incident stemmed from a reported “basag-kotse” case that occurred at around 3:55 a.m. on Feb. 17 in front of a residence in Barangay Kaligayahan, Novaliches.
The QCPD continues to enhance police visibility and strengthen coordination with barangay officials and community members to deter similar crimes.
Authorities are also urging motorists to take precautionary measures, including refraining from leaving valuables inside vehicles, parking in well-lit and secure areas, and promptly reporting suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through the E911/QC Helpline 122.
Police assured residents that operations against street crimes and other forms of theft will continue as part of the district’s broader peace and order strategy.
