ILOILO CITY – Local government units in Iloilo province are tracking down Overseas Filipino Workers as tensions escalate in the Middle East following joint attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran.
The Public Employment Service Office-Iloilo was able to track nearly 250 Ilonggo OFWs as of 5 p.m. Monday, March 2.
“And the number is rising,” said PESO-Iloilo Officer Cynthia Parcon Dario.
Iloilo Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. has directed PESO to find out the number of affected Ilonggos.
Twenty-six out of the 43 localities in the province were able to track down affected OFWs.
Dario said that the PESO-Iloilo data is culled from local PESOs of the LGUs as well as direct reports from OFWs themselves.
PESO-Iloilo City was able to track down more than 100 OFWs.
Both PESOs are in close coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), particularly its attached agency the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
