Denza has officially entered the Philippine market as a premium new energy vehicle brand under the BYD Group, opening its local push with the Denza D9 DM-i as its initial offering. Through the night, one line kept surfacing and it worked like a mission statement: Technology Drives Elegance. It shaped the staging, the product story, and the way Denza wants to be introduced to Filipino buyers.
BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division General Manager, Mr Liu Xueliang, arrives in style inside the Z9 GT, which executed a "tank turn" onstage.
To impress guests, a Denza Z9GT performance wagon, the brand's halo car, rolled out from backstage, executed a tank turn, then headed center stage to drop off BYD Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division General Manager Liu Xueliang. It was a showy opener, but it also made the point early: Denza is here as a brand, with more than one model already lined up.
Denza positioning
As the Philippines is more widely familiar with BYD, Denza used the Philippine launch to frame where the brand sits within the wider BYD Group's story. Denza started life as a BYD and Daimler joint venture, and it now operates as a BYD-owned premium marque, riding on the same electrification push that BYD has been building globally. That context sat alongside the night’s guiding line, Technology Drives Elegance, before Denza tightened the introduction into a simple acronym: Diverse, Elegant, Novel, Zenith, and Aspirational. Put simply, the tech is there so the experience feels calmer, safer, and easier to live with.
For now, Denza’s first local statement is the D9 DM-i, a full-size, seven-seat MPV aimed at the premium end of the people mover market. The powertrain is BYD’s Super DM-i electrified system, pairing a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with dual electric motors in an all-wheel drive configuration. Total output for the Philippine model is listed at 406-PS and 681-Nm, with a stated top speed of 180 km/h. Denza also quotes a maximum comprehensive range figure of up to 980-km with a full tank and a fully charged battery, a claim that targets the usual concern buyers raise about electrified vehicles: convenience on longer trips.
Mr. Adam Hu, Country Head of BYD and Denza Philippines, talks about the D9 DM-i premium MPV
“Today marks an important milestone for Denza in the Philippines. We are introducing a brand for individuals who seek a premium mobility experience — where innovation enhances comfort, every detail is carefully considered, and every journey feels refined and effortless. The D9 is just the beginning of our commitment to delivering this, and we look forward to expanding our presence in the months ahead.” said Adam Hu, Country Head of BYD and Denza Philippines.
Denza D9
Energy storage comes from BYD’s Blade Battery with a stated 40-kWh capacity, and the D9 DM-i sits within BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 ecosystem. In the real world, it explains why Denza keeps using Technology Drives Elegance as a headline. The D9 is trying to sell smoothness, quietness, and that slightly detached calm you get from a vehicle that does not feel strained in traffic.
The cabin is where the D9 DM-i makes its strongest case, and it is here where it will be judged against much more established competition. It is trimmed in Nappa leather across all three rows, but the emotional center of the vehicle is the second row. The D9 DM-i leans into an executive layout with what they call "zero-gravity" second-row seats, with comfort functions that include heating, ventilation, and massage. If you are coming from the usual MPV mindset, it is a different pitch. The D9 assumes the rear seats are not just for kids and luggage, but for adults who want to arrive less tired.
The tech story follows that same direction. The dashboard is led by a 15.6-inch central display, supported by a digital instrument cluster. Rear passengers get touch-based controls through integrated armrest screens, which is exactly the kind of detail that separates “big MPV” from “premium transport.” The feature choices feel aligned with the way people actually use this class of vehicle in Metro Manila. A lot of time is spent seated in the back, often with a driver, and often in excruciatingly slow traffic.
The D9 DM-i comes with a 14-speaker Dynaudio system, and the equipment list includes an integrated refrigerator/freezer/warmer for the cabin ( down to -6 degrees Celsius). These are quality-of-life features that make sense for airport runs, long commutes, and the kind of daily schedule where an MPV becomes a rolling waiting room.
Safety was treated as part of the luxury conversation, not a technical sidebar. The D9 DM-i carries 9 airbags throughout the cabin and an ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite. Structural protection claims were also highlighted during the program, framed as part of the vehicle’s occupant protection story. Denza is treating safety as part of the luxury brief, the sort that lets occupants relax once the doors close.
Denza set the official price at ₱4,298,000 for the Denza D9 DM-i. Four exterior colors were shown for the Philippine lineup: Whale Sea Blue, Cosmos Black, Arctic White, and Starry Night Grey. Denza also outlined an ownership support bundle that includes contact center support, 24/7 roadside assistance, included charging hardware described as an AC wall charger plus a portable charger, free three-year PMS, and a Denza club community. Battery coverage is stated at 8 years or 160,000 km. The brand's launch promo brings down the price to ₱3,998,000 for the first 300 customers.
The bigger point is that the D9 is only the start. Denza has already talked about bringing in the Denza B5 and Denza B8, known globally as the Fangchengbao B5 and B8 (before being rebranded under Denza for global markets), with timing mentioned as the first quarter of the year after the D9. The Denza Z9GT is also expected later this year, and its appearance at the launch was just a tease of what's yet to come for the brand.
