The Cainta, Rizal municipal government announced on Monday, March, 2, the launch of smaller dump trucks for its expanded garbage collection system aimed at streamlining the collection and recycling process of collected waste in the town.
Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto made the announcement saying that the smaller dump trucks will be deployed across barangays with small streets and alleyways that cannot be properly reached by huge dump trucks being used in the past.
The 30 new vehicles will also help mitigate traffic caused by the bigger trucks and expedite the collection of garbage from households.
“Simula pa noong 2023, nang ako ay munisipal na administrador pa lamang, plano na nating bawiin sa pribadong kompanya ang gawain ng paghahakot ng basura para mas ma kontrol natin ang kalidad ng serbisyo at tiyakin na ang bawat bahay ay makakakuha ng pantay na pagkakataong maipasa ang kanilang mga dumi (Since 2023, when I was still a municipal administrator, we have been planning to take back the task of garbage collection from private companies so that we can better control the quality of service and ensure that every household gets an equal opportunity to dispose of their waste)," Nieto said.
The initial roll out of the new garbage collection scheme will start in Barangays Santo Domingo, San Juan, and Santa Rosa on March 15 before its full-scale implementation across Cainta's seven barangays in the coming months.
Aside from the door-to-door garbage collection made possible by the smaller trucks, the municipal government will also open its brand new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) and Recycling Plant in Barangay San Andres by next month, which will serve as the primary center for the sorting, processing and recycling of various kinds of trash, including organic wastes, plastics, papers and tin cans.
Nieto explained Cainta's waste segregation and recycling program started in 2022 in partnership with
Holcim Philippines for the processing of plastic wastes to be used as alternative form of energy for its recycling plants.
The partnership also led to the distribution of over 120 recycling bins set up in Cainta's public places, schools, and barangay halls.
“Layunin natin na makamit ang zero-waste na pamamahala sa loob ng tatlong taon. Hindi lamang natin mapapabuti ang kalinisan ng ating bayan kundi makakatulong din tayo sa pagprotekta ng kalikasan at paglikha ng mga trabaho para sa ating mga kababayan sa pamamagitan ng mga negosyong kaugnay ng recycling (Our goal is to achieve zero-waste management within three years. We will not only improve the cleanliness of our town but we will also help protect the environment and create jobs for our countrymen through recycling-related businesses)," the mayor stressed.
