Mayor Ruffy Biazon commended the opening of the Muntinlupa Road Safety Park that aims to teach children basic traffic rules and road discipline.
As part of the celebration of the 31st Muntinlupa Cityhood anniversary, the city government, in partnership with the Department of Transportation (DOTr), inaugurated and blessed the Muntinlupa Road Safety Park on March 2.
The inauguration was attended by Biazon, Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, Muntinlupa Rep. Jaime Fresnedi, Undersecretary for Road Transport and Infrastructure Mark Steven Pastor, Land Transportation Office Executive Director Martin Ontoy, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager Nicolas Torre III, and key officials from both the national and local governments.
The 3,140-sq. m. Road Safety Park is a dedicated experiential learning space where children can understand traffic rules in a safe and guided environment.
The facility features simulated roads, pedestrian walkways, cycleways, traffic signage zones, mock public transport stops, and a railway demonstration area—all designed to teach proper road behavior through hands-on experience.
The project, with a total cost of over P30 million, was funded by the DOTr as part of its national road safety initiatives, reinforcing the shared commitment of national and local government to reduce traffic-related incidents through early education and behavioral change.
Biazon emphasized that road safety should begin long before a person applies for a driver’s license.
“For us, road safety does not start at the licensing office. It starts while our children are young. If discipline and respect for traffic laws are taught early, we prevent tragedies later,” he said.
The project supports DOTr’s broader road safety campaign, which promotes education, awareness, and shared responsibility among all road users.
Biazon said the road is a shared space.
“Shared responsibility ang kalsada. Motorista ka man o pedestrian, pareho tayong may obligasyon na rumespeto sa batas at sa isa’t isa (The road is a shared responsibility. Whether you are a motorist or a pedestrian, we both have an obligation to respect the law and each other),” he added.
The city government said the Road Safety Park will serve as a long-term investment in shaping disciplined, informed, and responsible road users—ensuring that the culture of safety begins not at adulthood, but in childhood.
