BAGUIO CITY – The city government has ramped up health and safety measures a month ahead of the Holy Week observance and the expected influx of summer vacation travelers.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong, in a media interview on the sidelines of Monday's flag raising rites, said he has directed the partial activation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) and the Barangay DRRMC.
“Dapat ready na tayo dahil ine-expect natin ang maraming bisita kapag summer vacation at Holy Week. Although alam natin na regular na ang tourist arrival natin lalo na kapag weekend or long weekend, mas dumadami sa mga season na ‘yun kaya pinaghahandaan natin parati (We have to be ready because as usual, we expect the influx of tourists although are always ready because tourists are part of us especially on weekends and long weekends. However, the summer vacation where we receive more tourists),” he said.
As chair of the CDRRRMC, Magalong earlier issued CDRRMC Memorandum 02-2026 alerting key departments and offices of the city government for possible mobilization.
“The Smart City Command Center (SC3), City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), BDRRMCs (Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committee), and the Public Information Office will be on Blue Alert from Feb. 21, 2026 to April 30, 2026 to provide timely, accurate, and appropriate coordination with all warning and frontline agencies,” the memorandum said.
The memorandum also cited specific functions of the City Engineering Office, Transportation and Traffic Management Division (CEO-TTMD), Public Order and Safety Division (POSD), and General Services Office. The City Health Services Office shall activate all Health Emergency Response Teams to avoid overlapping and duplication of functions.
Magalong said anti-road obstruction operations will continue to ensure safety of motorists and pedestrians.
Health and medical aid stations will also be made available in areas of convergence, while all health centers will be equipped with the necessary services and supplies.
Magalong said regular garbage collection would also be implemented to help prevent spread of diseases. (PNA)
