'Amihan' not over yet; cooler winds may return this week — PAGASA
Warm and humid weather will continue to prevail across most of the country in the coming days, but the northeast monsoon, locally known as the “amihan,” is expected to return by midweek, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, March 2.
PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the entire archipelago is currently experiencing warm and humid conditions due to the easterlies.
However, he said the amihan has not completely ended, and another surge is expected by Wednesday, March 4, which could affect a large part of Luzon.
The amihan generally lasts from October to March and typically brings cooler temperatures, stronger winds, and occasional rains, particularly over Luzon.
Based on PAGASA records, the previous northeast monsoon season for 2024–2025 officially ended on March 26, 2025, while the onset of the current amihan season for 2025–2026 was declared on Oct. 27, 2025.
As of Monday, Aurelio said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone was being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility.
He advised the public to remain alert for localized thunderstorms that may still bring sudden heavy rains, lightning, and gusty winds, especially during the afternoon or evening.
