Phivolcs
A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Iloilo province at 6:13 p.m. on Monday, March 2, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.
Phivolcs said the epicenter was located 2 kilometers southeast of Tigbauan, Iloilo, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Instruments recorded the tremor at Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Jordan in Guimaras and Iloilo City; Intensity III (weak) in Valderrama and Culasi in Antique, Nueva Valencia in Guimaras, and Passi City in Iloilo; Intensity II (slightly felt) in Malinao in Aklan, Tapaz in Capiz, San Lorenzo in Guimaras, La Carlota City, Sipalay City, and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental, and San Jose de Buenavista in Antique; and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Ibajay and Malay in Aklan, Anini'y in Antique, and Jamindan in Capiz.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, caused by movement along an active fault in the area.
The agency also warned that aftershocks may still occur.
