THE PCG rescued 15 individuals from a distressed vessel in Basilan.
ZAMBOANGA CITY – Fifteen persons were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard and a fishing boat from a distressed vessel in the sea of Baluk Baluk Island in Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan on Monday, March 2.
MV Sheryl, with seven crew members and eight passengers on board, was transporting water cargo when one of its tanks collapsed, resulting in an imbalance of the vessel. Seawater seeped in and sunk the ship.
The Hadji Muhtamad substation of the PCG deployed a search and rescue team after they were informed of the incident.
All 15 individuals, who were initially rescued by the FV Marcus 308 of Mega Fishing Corp., were transferred to the PCG and taken to shore.
Survivors were subjected to medical assessment by the Barangay Health Unit of Baluk Baluk. No casualties were reported.
