Hariphil Asia Resources Inc. (HARI), the official distributor of Volvo Cars in the Philippines, has launched the Volvo ES90 Ultra BEV and Volvo EX90 Ultra BEV locally, adding two new battery-electric flagships to its lineup.
The ES90 Ultra BEV arrives as an executive electric sedan with a fastback-style roofline and a stated 0.25 Cd aerodynamic coefficient, supported by a flat under-chassis design. Exterior details include flush door handles and a front-end shield treatment that integrates radar, ultrasonic sensors, and cameras for driver-assist systems. An automatic spoiler shutter integrated into the lower fascia helps manage cooling for the high-voltage battery.
Inside, the ES90 follows Volvo’s Scandinavian cabin theme, highlighted by a panoramic electrochromic roof. Seating features include power-adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage, paired with rear seats that recline and provide ventilation. Cabin quietness is listed at around 68 to 70 dB, while a four-zone climate control system supports multi-zone temperature management. Volvo also cites a 3,102 mm wheelbase as a key contributor to rear legroom and second-row comfort.
The ES90 is equipped with a 92 kWh battery and a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive layout producing 330 horsepower, equivalent to about 335 PS. It supports DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes. Air suspension is part of the package, with adjustable ride height and drive modes that alter the vehicle’s ride character.
A headline engineering feature is the ES90’s 800-volt EV architecture, described as a first for a Volvo sedan. The setup is paired with a stated WLTP driving range of up to 700 km and is positioned around faster DC charging capability and improved thermal efficiency.
Driver assistance and active safety are built around a sensor suite specified at 7 cameras, 5 radars, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The ES90 is also equipped with Next-Generation Pilot Assist, which includes lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and navigation support functions. Systems intended to help prevent collisions, including autonomous emergency braking and intersection-related intervention, are also part of the safety suite, alongside Safe Exit Assist.
The EX90 Ultra BEV serves as Volvo’s flagship seven-seat electric SUV. It has been credited with a World Luxury Car title at the World Car Awards, while its Driver Understanding System was listed by TIME Magazine as one of 2024’s Best Inventions.
The EX90 cabin continues the Scandinavian design theme, with a flat-floor architecture and FSC-certified backlit wood décor. The feature set includes individually adjustable first- and second-row seats, power-folding rear seats, and USB-C connectivity across all rows. Comfort and air-quality features include four-zone climate control, PM2.5 air purification, and LED lighting designed to mimic natural sunlight.
For hardware and performance, the EX90 is specified with a twin-motor AWD drivetrain and a 111 kWh high-voltage battery, with a stated WLTP range of up to around 624 km. Charging capability is listed at 10 to 80 percent in approximately 22 minutes at up to 350 kW on DC fast charging. Output is listed at 300 kW, equivalent to about 408 PS, and 770 Nm, with a 0 to 100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds, a top speed of 180 km/h that is electronically limited, and towing capacity of up to 2,200 kg.
Safety hardware for the EX90 is centered on Volvo’s Safe Space Technology, combining 8 high-resolution cameras, 5 radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and the Driver Understanding System for a real-time 360-degree view of the vehicle’s surroundings while monitoring driver condition. Supporting elements include a high-precision Global Navigation Satellite System antenna, dual-core computers, interior occupant monitoring, and high-definition cloud maps. The EX90’s core computing platform is designed to support over-the-air updates intended to improve safety, features, and performance.
“With the launch of the Volvo ES90 Ultra BEV and EX90 Ultra BEV, we are introducing not only Volvo’s next-generation electric vehicles in the Philippines, but also the principle of shaping a future that values safety and responsibility,” said Ms. Maria Fe Perez-Agudo, Vice Chairman, President, and CEO of HARI.
“These models reflect our commitment to delivering a driving experience that is not only technologically advanced but also instinctively crafted for comfort, confidence, and enduring value. Every detail, from the sophisticated design to the intuitive digital innovations, is engineered to elevate the journey, setting a new benchmark for refined electric mobility with the elegance of Scandinavian design for both discerning executives and modern families, for today and tomorrow,” she added.
Locally, the ES90 Ultra BEV is priced at ₱5,265,000, while the seven-seat EX90 Ultra BEV is listed at ₱5,990,000.
Both models are available for viewing at Volvo Makati, with test drive inquiries accommodated through Volvo Cars Makati.
