ILOILO CITY – The University of San Agustin-College of Law (USA-COL) in this city won their third consecutive championship in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition-Philippine National Rounds and will represent the country internationally this month.
“The national trophy returns to San Agustin, but the work continues. The team will again have the honor of representing the Republic of the Philippines,” said Atty. Anfred Panes, USA-COL coach.
USA-COL defeated top seed University of San Carlos (USC) of Cebu and second seed Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU).
“We extend our highest respect to USC and ADMU for their formidable skills and our shared dedication to international law,” added Panes in a Facebook post.
The strong performance of USA-COL at the domestic rounds of the international competition was held at the University of Santo Tomas in Sampaloc, Manila last Feb. 25 to 27.
The team was led by Idan Javier, who was also awarded as Best Oralist in the preliminary and championship rounds, and composed of Val Guilbert Mariwa, Marie Curie delos Santos, Cianen Kei Ang Lee, and Jan King Ortizo.
Panes lauded them for their relentless work and rigorous preparation in defeating stronger teams from the country’s prestigious law schools.
They thanked the Augustinian community led by USA President Fr. Arnel Dizon and USA-COL Dean Atty. Jose Mari Tirol for their support.
USA-COL team will represent the country in the international global rounds in Washington, D.C., United States from March 28 to April 4.
