- Suganob once again showed his readiness for another shot at the world title by pulling off an eighth-round technical knockout (TKO) win over South African Siphamandla Baleni in the main event of the card put up by PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions.
World-rated Regie Suganob and Eman Bacosa Pacquiao delivered electrifying performances and outclassed their respective foreign opponents in Kumong Bol-anon 24 on Saturday night, Feb. 28, at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.
Suganob once again showed his readiness for another shot at the world title by pulling off an eighth-round technical knockout (TKO) win over South African Siphamandla Baleni in the main event of the card put up by PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions.
Picking up from where he left off last year, Suganob stretched his winning streak to eight, never losing again since faltering in his first crack at the world title against Baleni’s compatriot Sivenathi Nontshinga in July 2023.
Suganob, a 28-year-old native of Dauis, Bohol, admitted that he was extra motivated that he was up against another South African boxer.
“I was really determined to win this to somehow avenge my loss to Nontshinga,” said Suganob, who improved to 18W-1L, 7KOs.
Baleni, a two-time world title challenger, went home with his fourth straight loss to fall to 21 wins, 9 losses and 2 draws.
“Suganob is a good boxer. He hits hard. I have to admit I took a lot of punishment,” Baleni said.
The ending came in the final 39 seconds of the eighth round when Suganob tagged Baleni with a solid combo to the head and body.
The hits forced Baleni to backpedal. He then knelt on one knee, shook his head before his corner threw in the towel, sealing Suganob’s masterful win.
On the other hand, inspired by the presence of his family and fellow Sparkle GMA Artists center talent Jillian Ward, Pacquiao scored his own impressive win by knocking out Indonesian fighter Reynold Kundimang in the fourth round in the card’s in the co-main event.
The son of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao scored several knockdowns in the first three three rounds before finally putting Kundimang away for good with torrid body shots late in the fourth.
“I want to thank everyone who came to support. Some travelled from far places just to watch my fight,” said Pacquiao.
Cheers grew louder when Pacquiao addressed Ward.
“Jillian thank you to you and to your family for coming. Your support means a lot,” said Pacquiao, who improved to 8 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw, while dealing Kundimang his eighth defeat against nine wins and three draws.
In the undercards, WBO Asia Pacific minimumweight champion Joseph Sumabong defeated Roland Toyogon via sixth-round TKO, Leonard Pores III scored a unanimous decision win over Justine Digamo, while Reymart Tagacanao and Christian Balunan scored knockout wins against Anthony Gilbuela and Roldan Sasan, respectively.
Also, Shane Gentallan beat Marlon Alejandro via unanimous decision, Jericho Acaylar won over Mark Anthony Burias, and Jick-Kier Autida prevailed over Ariel Angling.
