BFP: March Fire Prevention Month officially kicks-off

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) launched on Sunday, March 1, its “Fire Prevention Month’’ with a massive assembly of over 3,000 individuals and more than 300 vehicles.
Headed by BFP chief Director Jesus Fernandez, the event brought together BFP personnel, national government agencies, local and barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices, fire volunteers, fire brigades, private partners and non-government organizations.
Representing the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla, Maria Liavel C. Badillo-Crisostomo, Assistant Secretary for Communications and External Affairs emphasized the shared responsibility in fire prevention.
“Fire safety starts with what we do everyday, sa mga maliit na desisyon at gawain sa bahay, trabaho at komunidad. We cannot all rely solely on the BFP, while they are the first responders, we should do our part. Sa pag-iwas sa sunog, hindi ka nag-iisa. No one should be left behind, (Fire safety starts with what we do every day, in the most minute judgment and chores in the home, workplace, community. “Knowing who to call is our first step—always remember our direct line to safety is our Unified 911 System,” she added, urging the public for immediate reporting and response.
Representatives from various sectors, including Engr. Liza B. Silerio of SM Supermalls, Pasay City Mayor Imelda “Emi" Calixto-Rubiano, PCCI President Ferdinand “Perry” Ferrer and Deputy Chief PNP for Administration, Pol. Lt. Gen. Bernard M Banac, also expressed their message of support.
The program event also featured a ceremonial signing of the “Wall of Support” and concluded with a motorcade from the MOA Globe to Quezon Memorial Circle.
In a statement, the BFP explained that the month-long fire safety campaign aims to intensify public awareness on fire safety and remind the shared commitment to a fire-safe nation.
