BACOLOD CITY – Mayor Greg Gasataya announced on Sunday, March 1, that the city government has activated a hotline and established a help desk to assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and residents with family members and friends affected by the ongoing Middle East tension.
“We just want to assure them that if they need assistance, we can coordinate immediately with national agencies concerned,” he said in a media interview.
Gasataya said that the city has received updates regarding Bacolodnons in the region, with most reporting that they are safe.
The city government, in coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), is committed to providing guidance, support, and any necessary assistance to ensure the well-being of Bacolod residents in the Middle East.
Those needing assistance may call 09308775097 or visit the help desks at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) lobby starting Monday, March 2.
“We encourage everyone affected to reach out so we can provide the help they need. Hoping and praying for everyone’s safety,” the city government said in a statement.
Negros Occidental third district Rep. Javier Miguel Benitez urged concerned government agencies to take all necessary measures to safeguard Filipinos in the Middle East.
In a Facebook post, Benitez said they are closely monitoring the military strikes on Iran and the retaliatory attacks across the region.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the millions of Filipinos across the Middle East, especially our Kababayans from the third district and our fellow Negrosanons,” he said.
He expressed hope that no Filipinos would be harmed due to conflict.
“To our OFWs, please stay safe,” the lawmaker added, urging them to follow embassy advisories, remain indoors, and keep communication lines with their families open.
