Special investigation team probes Iloilo village chair's murder

ILOILO CITY – A special investigation team (SIT) has been created by the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) to probe the murder of a barangay captain in San Joaquin town, Iloilo.
IPPO director Police Col. Bayani Razalan is supervising the SIT on Richard Sapalo, barangay captain of Barangay Ginot-an.
Under the command of IPPO Deputy Provincial Director for Operations Police Lt. Col. Engilbert Banquillo, members of the SIT include the San Joaquin Municipal Police Station.
IPPO spokesperson Police Lt. Col. Rolando Araño said an SIT was created as Sapalo was an incumbent barangay official.
Araño told Manila Bulletin on Saturday, Feb. 28, that the killing of Sapalo might be linked to his position as barangay captain or personal grudge.
Sapalo reportedly received death threats last New Year’s Eve.
The victim was sleeping when he was shot twice. His body was discovered by his daughter on Thursday morning, Feb. 26, his birth anniversary.
