Filipinos in Israel are advised to monitor developments amid yet another possible conflict in the Middle East over US President Donald Trump’s hint of attacking neighboring Iran.
The Philippine embassy in Tel Aviv issued an advisory on Saturday morning (Manila time) as Washington told its non-essential embassy personnel to leave the country “due to safety risks.”
The Philippine embassy said it is also currently monitoring the situation and encouraged Filipinos to obey the advice of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)’s Home Front Command for any changes in safety guidelines.
“Maging mas maingat at alerto sa mga susunod na araw (Take extra care and be more alert in the coming days),” the embassy said.
Trump on Friday hinted at the possibility of attacking Iran as he seemed displeased with Tehran’s ongoing nuclear program.
He said, “Sometimes you have to” use the US military in attacking Iran, but added, “we haven’t made a final decision” of doing so.
Israel, a US ally, is preparing to bear possible retaliation from Iran.
The Philippine embassy said it is important for Filipinos to know the locations of nearby mamad or shelters and to be prepared to take refuge upon receiving an urgent alert or tseva adom on their mobile phones.
The embassy provided a link to a WhatsApp group, where Filipinos can join to receive important advisories:
