OPM band Silent Sanctuary is marking another milestone in their career after years of filling out venues across the Philippines. The band is set to bring their signature rock-with-strings sound to international audiences—kicking things off with a completely sold-out concert series in Japan.
The upcoming concert was initially planned as a one-day event, but with overwhelming support, the band decided to schedule two more nights.
"This is our first time in Japan. It was supposed to be just one show, but because of the fans, they opened a second show and then a third,” vocalist Sarkie Sarangay shared.
Violinist Kim Mirandilla-Ng described the upcoming tour as a moment the band feels "grateful for a new adventure," while cellist Anjo Inacay highlighted the growing reach of OPM across Asia, relating how exciting it is to see Filipino music crossing into neighboring countries.
Note that they are also scheduled to perform in Singapore next.
"Walang humpay na pasasalamat. Thank you to all the old and new fans. Sana hindi kayo magsawa, dahil hindi kami magsasawa gumawa ng kanta para sa inyo (Endless gratitude. Thank you to all the old and new fans. I hope you don't get tired, because we won't get tired of making songs for you)", Sarkie added.
The band describes their Japan sojourn as both humbling and exciting, relating how rare it is for a Filipino act of their ilk to see their music reach new listeners in unfamiliar places. They added that the experience feels less like a career step and more like something they’re sharing.
Coinciding with the tour is the release of the band’s new single "UNA," under Universal Records, a refreshed version of a track originally recorded as a demo in 2009 and previously performed in the band’s early live sets.
More than a decade into the music scene, Silent Sanctuary isn’t following trends. They’re going back to their roots and performing for bigger audiences than before.
