Intimate scenes are off-limits: Bela Padilla opens up about roles she avoids
Known as the "Queen of Hugot Films,'' Bela Padilla shares her thoughts on picking her roles.
In her recent interview on "Fast Talk with Boy Abunda," Bela explained why she avoids projects with intimate love scenes.
"Ako isa lang requirement ko, Tito Boy. Gusto ko lang na ‘pag may pelikula ako, naiimbitahan ko ‘yung pamilya ko sa premiere night (I only have one requirement, Tito Boy. I just want that whenever I have a movie, I can invite my family to the premiere night),” she said.
Valuing her craft as an actress, Bela noted that her roles should help her grow as an artist.
"If it doesn’t advance my career, Tito Boy. If it doesn’t… parang If it doesn’t help me as an artist. Yung parang… wala kang mapapakitang acting range (If it doesn’t advance my career, Tito Boy. If it doesn’t… It's like, if it doesn’t help me grow as an artist. Like… you won’t get to show any range in your acting)," Bella added.
Starring in the upcoming romance film "A Special Memory" together with Carlo Aquino, Bela clarified that she makes exceptions when love scenes are important to the story.
"Carlo and I have two love scenes in the film, but they’re very tastefully done, and they are important to the story,” she said.
Despite the challenge of filming the scenes, Bela expressed gratitude to the film’s director, Jerry Lopez Sineneng.
"Direk Jerry is so helpful, and gracious, and brilliant, and he preps my mind so much (Director Jerry is so helpful, gracious, and brilliant that he really prepared my mind),” she added.
Preparing for the love scenes, Bela even reached out to Director Irene Villamor for guidance.
"So sabi ko, ‘Direk, paano ko gagawin ‘to? Like, I'm so scared. Do I drink? Like, do I take shots? Because I’m so scared’ (So I said, ‘Direk, how am I going to do this? Like, I’m so scared. Do I drink? Like, Do I take shots? Because I’m so scared’),” she said.
When asked if she would do a torrid kissing scene, Bela admitted that it doesn’t suit her.
"Parang ang branding ko talaga, mapanakit eh. Parang doon na ako kilala eh (It’s like my brand is like ‘causing pain.’ That’s kind of how I became known),” she added.
Having been in the industry for 19 years, Bela also shared her biggest dream as an actress.
"My gosh, gusto ko parang… Gusto kong magkaroon ng pagbabago sa industriya. Not for me (My gosh, I want… I want to see a change in the industry. Not for me),” Bela said.
