ILOILO CITY – The province of Iloilo is eyeing an agriculture-food trade pact with Canada.
Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. met Senior Trade Commissioner Janine Fiddler of the Embassy of Canada at the sidelights of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic meetings here.
Defensor conducted a brief presentation of the investment opportunities for value chain development as Iloilo still has a strong agricultural sector.
Fiddler assured that the Embassy of Canada will link the provincial government to Canadian agricultural sectors for possible investments.
Defensor and Fiddler also discussed other potential trade pacts and partnerships in business process outsourcing, smart cities, digital health, and solid waste management.
Potential sisterhood agreements between Iloilo and Canada to strengthen ties were tackled.
Fiddler was accompanied by Trade Commissioner Dodjie Fabian of the Embassy of Canada.
Defensor was joined by Provincial Legal Officer Atty. Dennis Ventilacion, Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Center Chief Aulynn Yue Sin, Provincial Planning and Development Office Acting Head Jigger Labergue, Provincial Population Officer and Head Executive Assistant to the Governor Atty. Ruel Von Superio, LEDIP Development Management Officer II IJ M. Salcedo, and Protocol Officer Mary Ann Ybañez.
