The Manila Police District (MPD) reported that the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution in Manila on Feb. 25, was “generally peaceful,” with no major untoward incidents recorded.
Around 6,000 personnel from the MPD and partner agencies were deployed across key areas in the city to ensure public safety during the anniversary activities.
The Manila Police District also noted a lower turnout of rallyists this year compared with last year’s EDSA anniversary and the Sept. 21 protests marking the Martial Law declaration. Fewer participants were monitored in key convergence areas such as Legarda Street, MacArthur Bridge, and Liwasang Bonifacio.
Police officers were stationed at major convergence points, including Chino Roces Bridge in Mendiola, Roxas Boulevard in front of the United States Embassy Manila, Gen. Solano Street, Nicanor Padilla Street, Arlegui Street, Ayala Bridge, San Sebastian Basilica, Legarda Street, Liwasang Bonifacio, and España Boulevard.
Security measures included intensified area surveillance, crowd control, parking and route security, traffic management, and the establishment of monitoring command posts.
The MPD coordinated with several agencies, including the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, as well as police units from nearby regions and provinces.
MPD District Director Arnold E Abad commended the efforts of uniformed personnel and partner agencies, citing their discipline, coordination, and professionalism in maintaining peace and order throughout the commemorative events.
He said their collective efforts helped ensure the safety and security of the public during the peaceful observance of the historic anniversary.
