InLife taps Ayala's ACEN to fully power headquarters
ACEN Corp., the energy unit of the Ayala group, expanded its partnership with Insular Life Assurance Co. Ltd. to supply the insurer’s corporate offices with 100 percent renewable energy.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Thursday, Feb. 26, ACEN said the agreement marked the full-scale transition for InLife’s headquarters in Makati and Alabang, Muntinlupa, which will now draw power from its portfolio of solar, wind, and geothermal assets.
InLife's move follows the initial 2024 partnership where ACEN RES, the group’s retail electricity arm, provided clean energy exclusively for the buildings’ daytime operations.
The collaboration is facilitated through the Retail Competition and Open Access and the Green Energy Option Program. These regulatory frameworks allow eligible large-scale consumers to bypass traditional franchise utilities and negotiate directly with preferred suppliers. The programs are central to the government’s strategy to foster market competition and expedite the shift toward a low-carbon economy.
“InLife’s transition to renewable energy and adherence to globally recognized standards in environmentally safe infrastructure are efforts to lead by example and drive meaningful change,” said Hector A. Caunan, executive vice president and chief property investment officer at InLife.
The insurer, which has been operating for 115 years, currently manages an asset base of ₱158.9 billion and a net worth of ₱44.3 billion. With 56 offices nationwide, InLife has increasingly prioritized ESG—environmental, social, and governance—metrics within its real estate and investment portfolio.
For ACEN, the deal underscores its aggressive push into the retail power market as it seeks to scale its renewable footprint. Tony Valdez, ACEN senior vice president for market transformation and retail, noted that the partnership reflects a growing trend among Philippine corporations to balance operational cost management with environmental impact.
As part of the agreement, ACEN granted InLife its “Powered by Renewable Energy” badge, a marketing certification for private partners that source their total power requirements from the Ayala-led supplier.
ACEN currently maintains nearly seven gigawatts of attributable renewable energy capacity across its operational, under-construction, and committed projects. While the Philippines remains its primary market, the company has significant capital deployments in Australia, Vietnam, India, and Laos. The company aims to become the largest listed renewable energy platform in Southeast Asia, targeting 20 gigawatts of capacity by 2030.
