700 security personnel deployed for Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival

LAOAG CITY – Around 700 security and safety personnel have been deployed to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and joyful celebration for the Tan-ok ni Ilocano Festival at the Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium here on Feb. 28, police bared Thursday.
Police Major Kristian Lee Badua, acting chief of the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit in Ilocos Norte, said the deployment prepares for the expected influx of local and foreign tourists and festival-goers.
"As of the moment, we have deployed almost 700 personnel and counting," Badua said in an interview.
The security force includes personnel from the Philippine Marines, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, and volunteers. They will maintain peace and order throughout the cultural showdown, which will feature 22 contingents from different towns and cities of Ilocos Norte.
Police and partner agencies have conducted drills and simulation exercises to ensure security personnel and emergency responders are prepared for possible emergencies.
"Through unity, coordination, and preparedness, we will ensure a safe and successful Tan-ok 2026," Police Col. Joemar Labiano, provincial director of the Ilocos Norte Police Provincial Office, said in a statement.
Authorities expect an audience of 10,000 to 15,000, excluding performers and production staff.
The Ilocos Norte police reminded the public to observe safety protocols and refrain from bringing prohibited items, including weapons, explosives, pyrotechnics, illegal substances, alcoholic drinks, single-use plastics, drones, laser pointers, noisemakers, and banners or clothing with offensive, discriminatory, or highly political messages.
