Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan urged the public on Wednesday, February 25 to remember that the commemoration of the Edsa People Power Revolution is about making the impossible become possible through the collective action of the people working for the common good.
Pangilinan made his point as the country commemorates the 40th anniversary of the 1986 People Power Revolution.
“What once seemed impossible becomes possible through the collective action of various sectors working for the common good. The impossible became possible in EDSA 40 years ago, when the 20-year one-man rule ended and returned the institutions of democracy like the Senate and free press,” Pangilinan said in a statement.
“The impossible also became possible in last year’s election, when our ranking rose from 17 to 5 and we entered the winning circle..By the grace of God and the work of man, all these and more happened,” he said.
Pangilinan said he is optimistic that the Philippines will once again experience the true benefits of democracy and of freedom of expression.
“By the grace of God and the work of man, the income of farmers and fishers will rise, and the food prices will fall. Smugglers, hoarders, and their accomplices in the bureaucracy will be accountable,” he said.
“Ending nepotism in politics will, likewise, become possible, and the corrupt will be held to account and will be put in jail,” added the lawmaker.
“The impossible will once again become possible through the collective action of various sectors, for the sake of the least and the most vulnerable,” he stressed.
Civil society groups have gathered at the EDSA Shrine as part of the commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the People Power revolution.
Among the groups that jpined include Tindig Pilipinas, Union Theological Seminary, Akbayan Partylist, Partido Manggagawa, and People Power Volunteers for Reform.
