The Navotas City government has received its fifth Seal of Good Education Governance (SGEG) from the Synergeia Foundation, recognizing its sustained efforts to improve literacy programs and strengthen local education governance.
The award was presented during the 2026 National Educational Summit, where only three local government units in the National Capital Region received the distinction this year.
Navotas Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Meliton Zurbano accepted the recognition on behalf of the city.
Mayor John Rey Tiangco said the award highlights the strong partnership among the city government, schools, parents, and community stakeholders.
“This recognition affirms that when the local government, schools, and families work together, we can create meaningful improvements in our children’s education. We remain committed to investing in programs that strengthen literacy, support teachers, and help every Navoteño learner succeed,” Tiangco said.
The Seal of Good Education Governance is granted to LGUs that demonstrate effective school board leadership, active community involvement, improved reading outcomes, and sustained support for education programs.
Among Navotas’ major programs is Project APAT or “Ang Paaralan sa Aming Tahanan,” which encourages parents to take a more active role in their children’s learning.
The city also ranked first among 16 NCR school divisions in the National Achievement Test for Grade 6 for School Year 2024–2025.
The local government added that it recorded the lowest dropout rate at 0.02 percent and the lowest repetition rate at 0.29 percent in the region, reflecting its continued focus on quality and inclusive education.
