Man arrested for illegal possession of firearm in Taguig
Police arrested a 25-year-old man for illegal possession of a firearm in Barangay Western Bicutan, Taguig.
The police identified the suspect as alias Rex, a resident of Barangay Pinagsama, Taguig, who was arrested on Feb. 23.
His arrest stemmed from a report by a resident who told the police that a man in Centennial Village in Barangay Western Bicutan was recklessly handling a firearm.
A team from the Taguig police's Sub-station 2 went to the area and saw the suspect in possession of a .38-caliber revolver. The police confiscated the gun and three rounds of live ammunition.
When the suspect failed to present any legal document or permits for the weapon, he was taken into custody by the police.
He was brought to the Taguig Pateros District Hospital for a standard medical and physical examination.
The confiscated firearm was turned over to the Southern Police District (SPD) Forensic Unit for comprehensive ballistic and cross-matching examinations.
Investigators also submitted a formal request for record verification to the Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) to confirm that the suspect holds no License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) or Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR).
A complaint for violation of Section 28 of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) is being prepared for inquest proceedings at the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office.
Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo, SPD chief, said, "The arrest of alias Rex is a testament to the effectiveness of the partnership between the police and the people. When citizens remain observant and report suspicious activities, we are able to remove illegal firearms from our streets before they can be used to cause harm."
