The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has summoned 10 operators of bus and public utility vehicle (PUV) terminals in Pangasinan and La Union in the continuing operations against public transport waiting stations with run-down facilities.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said show cause order (SCO) was based on the surprise inspections conducted in Alaminos and Dagupan in Pangasinan and San Fernando City in La Union.
Those issued with SCOs are four bus and PYV terminals in Alaminos City in Pangasinan, four in Dagupan City also in Pangasinan, and two in San Fernando City in La Union.
“We will continue to conduct operations until all of the terminal operators comply with the basic rights of commuters for safe and comfortable commuting experience,” said Mendoza.
Based on the submitted reports, the common violations are lack of roofing to shield passengers from weather conditions, lack of functional comfort rooms and lack of CCTVs and security personnel.
Other violations include lack of facilities to protect passengers from incoming and outgoing vehicles and absence of facilities for senior citizens and persons with disability accessibility.
Mendoza said the terminal operators were ordered to explain in writing why their terminals must not be shut down, adding that a hearing was also scheduled for all the violators.
Mendoza lamented that based on the reports from various regions, the same violations are common across the country.
“We will put an end to this. What is normal is for these terminal operators to be mindful of the comfort and security of the passengers. They must comply or face closure of operations,” said Mendoza.
More than 120 bus and PUV operators were already issued with SCOs and notices of violations in the continuing operations of the LTFRB across the country.
