Highlighting strong collaboration between sectors in advancing public education, Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara on Wednesday, February 25, personally served hot meals to learners at Malinta Elementary School and led the turnover of donated ICT equipment.
Through a partnership with the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP), companies including Shearwater Health Advisors Inc., Ascendion Digital Solutions Philippines Inc., and Ernst & Young Global Services (Philippines, Inc.) contributed 378 ICT devices, bringing IBPAP’s total support to 2,119 units. These devices are helping accelerate digital learning and increase access to technology in public schools.
“Hindi ito simpleng donasyon o simpleng feeding activity (This is not a simple donation or a simple feeding activity),” Angara said.
“Ito ay patunay na kapag nagsama-sama ang pamahalaan, lokal na pamahalaan, at pribadong sektor, mas mabilis nating naibibigay ang teknolohiya at nutrisyon na kailangan ng ating mga mag-aaral (This is proof that when the national government, local government, and private sector come together, we can more quickly provide the technology and nutrition our students need),” he added.
School-based feeding program benefits thousands of learners
At Malinta Elementary School, DepEd said 737 learners benefited from the School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP).
Of these, 473 learners received hot meals from the city-operated kitchen, while 264 learners were provided with Nutritious Food Products (NFPs).
Across Valenzuela schools, DepEd said the program serves 14,269 learners, including participants of the Universal Kindergarten Feeding Program and students in Grades 2–6 who are identified as severely wasted or wasted.
Promoting inclusive education and improved school facilities
Angara toured the new computer laboratory at Malinta Elementary and the annex facility of the Valenzuela Special Education Center, engaging with students and teachers.
These visits underscore DepEd’s commitment to inclusive education, improved school infrastructure, and digital learning, supported by local government cooperation.
DepEd-LGU-private sector collaboration: A model for Philippine education
DepEd said the event demonstrates how partnerships between the government, LGUs, and private companies can efficiently deliver essential resources, ensuring learners across Valenzuela schools have the technology, nutrition, and facilities they need to succeed.
