DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Council offered prayers on Tuesday, Feb. 24, for former President Rodrigo R. Duterte, seeking fairness, clarity, and due process as the International Criminal Court continues its confirmation of charges hearing at The Hague, Netherlands.
Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, chairwoman of the Committee on Tourism, led the opening prayer before the regular session started. The members of the City Council prayed for strength, peace of mind, and courage for Duterte as he faces allegations before the international tribunal.
The city councilors, many of who are considered political allies of the Duterte family, are associated either with Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod, founded by former President Duterte, or Hugpong ng Pagbabago, co-founded by his daughter, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte.
Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, chairperson of the Committee on Finance, called on the public to pray for former President Duterte amid the ongoing proceedings. “We need to pray sincerely before Friday and even after that,” he said.
