A 35-year-old alleged robbery suspect was hospitalized after he was struck by a truck driver during an attempted holdup along San Miguel Drive in San Nicolas, Binondo, Manila.
The injured suspect, identified only as alias “Rey,” a resident of Binondo, sustained a head wound and injuries to his arm.
The Manila Police District (MPD) said on Wednesday, Feb. 25, that the suspect allegedly approached the truck driver while armed with a bladed weapon and attempted to rob him.
The driver reportedly fought back and used a bolo from his truck to defend himself, striking the suspect and causing his injuries.
Personnel from Delpan Police Station 12, under the leadership of Lt. Col. Felimon Cacap, immediately responded to the incident and ensured the suspect was brought to the hospital for treatment.
Police later located the truck driver, who voluntarily surrendered to authorities following coordination with investigators.
The driver claimed he acted in self-defense after being threatened by the armed suspect.
Despite his claim, police said the driver is currently in custody and may face a charge of frustrated homicide, pending further investigation.
Meanwhile, the suspect is expected to face a robbery charge once he is discharged from the hospital.
Authorities said the incident remains under investigation.
