CEBU CITY – Police in Central Visayas will be on heightened alert to ensure peaceful commemoration of the 40th anniversary of EDSA People Revolution on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), said security measures are already in place to prevent untoward incidents from happening during mass gatherings.
In Cebu City, the Archdiocese of Cebu and Sugboanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korapsyon (SuPaKK) organized a series of events on Tuesday.
“We fully respect the right of our people to peacefully assemble and express their views. At the same time, we strongly encourage those planning to participate in public assemblies to comply with existing laws and procedures, particularly in securing the necessary permits from local authorities,” Maranan said.
Maranan said some 3,400 police personnel will be deployed in various areas in the region.
Critical infrastructure will also be secured, Maranan said.
The PRO-7 has coordinated with local government units and tapped force multipliers and other stakeholders to beef up uniformed police personnel.
“This ensures that while freedoms are exercised, the safety and security of all participants and the general public are fully protected,” said Maranan.
