A pedestrian was thrown several meters after being struck by a motorcycle along Jose Abad Santos Avenue in Tondo, late Monday, Feb. 23.
According to the Manila Police District, the incident occurred at around 11:25 p.m. along the southbound lane of Jose Abad Santos Avenue corner Tecson Street within the area of responsibility of Abad Santos Police Station (PS-7).
Initial investigation identified the motorcycle rider as a 38-year-old security officer from Barangay 228, Tondo.
Police said the motorcycle was traveling southbound when it sideswiped a 41-year-old pedestrian, a resident of Barangay 207, Tondo, who was crossing the avenue from east to west.
The force of the collision threw the victim several meters away, causing him to land on the cemented pavement and sustain physical injuries.
He was rushed to Chinese General Hospital, where he remains under medical care.
Authorities added that the rider lost control of the motorcycle following the incident and crashed into two parked and unattended motorcycles along the roadway, resulting in additional property damage.
The rider was later brought to Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for mandatory medical examination and is currently under police custody.
The case has been referred for inquest proceedings as authorities continue their investigation.
