Cignal halts PLDT, climbs to solo lead

Cignal rediscovered its rhythm and halted PLDT’s three-game winning run with an emphatic 25-21, 25-29, 25-23 victory in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Centre in San Juan City on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The Super Spikers neutralized the High Speed Hitters’ offense and went on full throttle with their own attacks to bounce back from a straight-set loss to the Nxled Chameleons and seize the solo lead with a 4-1 card.

PLDT, for its part, fell to 3-1.

Erika Santos spearheaded Cignal’s assault by pumping in 17 points built on 16 attacks, while Vanie Gandler displayed her all-around game by posting 12 kills and two blocks to finish with 14 points.

PLDT made one last push to extend the match, slicing its 20-23 deficit to 22-23. But a costly service error by Savi Davison handed Cignal the match point advantage, 24-22.

Davison tried to atone with a back-row attack on the next play, but the rally proved short-lived as Gel Cayuna delivered the finishing touch to seal the win for the Super Spikers.

Davison finished with 14 points, while Kianna Dy had 11 in a losing effort for PLDT.
