House Deputy Speaker La Union 1st district Rep. Paolo Ortega V thinks that President Marcos and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo "look good together".
"Ang ganda nila tignan no, together? Sabi nga po nila, matagal pa daw po yung 2028. Pero para sa akin, maikli na po yung oras (They look good together, don’t they? As they say, 2028 is still a long way off. But for me, the time feels short)," Ortega said in a chance interview with House reporters on Monday morning, Feb. 23.
This was Ortega's response when he was asked what he thought about Marcos and Robredo's meeting in Naga City last Saturday, Feb. 21.
Depending on how you frame his response, the ranking congressman was either alluding to reports of a political alliance between the two, or he was just happy to see the two former 2022 Palace race rivals have a more-than-cordial interaction.
Asked about the rumored alliance between the so-called red and pink forces, Ortega said, "Mas sila na po yung makakasagot nung sa political side, pero tayo naman observers lahat tayo ng nangyari. Di ba good vibes lang?"
(They’re the ones who can really answer on the political side, while we’re just observers of everything happening. Wasn’t it just good vibes?)
He added: "Walang naka-black...di malungkot, parang namatayan. Pink yung medyas ni BBM, tapos naka-pastel colors lang sila. Si ma'am Leni, relax na relax, naglalakad."

(No one’s in black… it doesn’t feel sad, like mourning. BBM’s socks were pink, and they were all in pastel colors. Ma’am Leni looked completely relaxed, just walking around.)
Incidentally, Marcos and Robredo met again on Monday morning, this time in Malacañang, during the launch of the Local Government Support Fund for the provinces, cities and municipalities of the Philippines. The event was attended by local chief executives from all over the country.
Political pundits floated the coalition between Marcos and Robredo almost immediately after Vice President Sara Duterte’s declaration last Feb. 18 that she would vie for the presidency in the 2028 national elections.
Formerly aligned with the Marcos administration under the "UniTeam", Duterte broke off from the President in 2024 and has since been a fierce critic of the government.
