CAVITE – A hit-and-run incident led to the arrest of a motorist and the seizure of a firearm and more than half a million pesos worth of suspected shabu in Carmona City, early morning on Monday, Feb. 23.
The Cavite Police Provincial Office (Cavite PPO) identified the suspect as alias Ian, a resident of General Trias City.
The police report said the incident began at 10:17 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 22, when the suspect’s vehicle hit another vehicle on the road.
Instead of providing assistance to the injured party, the suspect fled the scene, prompting the personnel of the Carmona Component City Police Station (Carmona CCPS) to conduct a hot pursuit operation along Governor’s Drive.
Upon apprehending the suspect and retrieving his license, the police reportedly noticed a handgun in plain view inside the suspect’s bag.
A subsequent inspection led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol loaded with ammunition and approximately 75 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated standard drug price of P510,000.
Alias Ian is now under the custody of Carmona CCPS and is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury and damage to property, as well as violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Cavite PPO Director Col. Ariel R. Red commended the operating team for the successful arrest.
“The alertness and rapid coordination of our patrollers turned a traffic incident into a major arrest. By pursuing a hit-and-run suspect, our officers not only sought justice for the victim but also intercepted a substantial amount of illegal drugs and a lethal weapon,” Red said in a statement.
