Former vice president and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo, Senator Bam Aquino, and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, who are all part of a movement for good governance, met on a rare occasion at the Malacañan Palace on Monday, Feb. 23.
The three public officials met during the presentation of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Nationwide Classroom Building Program signed earlier by the Department of Education (DepEd) and local leaders from cities around the country.
Robredo, Aquino, and Belmonte, who are tagged as "good governance champions," were among the officials who committed to streamline processes and coordinate closely with DepEd to accelerate the delivery of much-needed learning facilities.
They shared a photo together during the event, and was posted by the Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership on social media with the caption "Champions of Good Governance."
Belmonte currently serves as Kaya Natin! chairperson, while Aquino and Robredo are its board members and chairperson emeritus, respectively. Aquino also served as the group’s chairperson in 2017.
Robredo and Belmonte represented their respective local government units during the MOA signing, while Aquino witnessed the event as the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Basic Education.
Kaya Natin! was founded by the late Secretary of Interior and Local Government Jesse Robredo in 2007 when he was the mayor of Naga City.
Aquino and Belmonte, together with Kaya Natin! and Mayors for Good Governance, also organized the People Power 40 Kick-Off Concert at Quezon Memorial Circle on Feb. 21.
Robredo, Marcos meet again
The Palace event on Monday was also the second meeting between President Marcos and Robredo in three days.
They met earlier in Naga City when Robredo welcomed Marcos as he inspected operations under Oplan Kontra Baha at Sagop Creek in Barangay Triangulo.
Although, it was not seen on the livestream, Marcos and Robredo had posed in a photo together with other officials.
It followed their meeting in Naga City on Feb. 21, which has been planned months in advance due to the worsening floods in the Bicol region, according to Marcos.
Robredo also said that their previous meeting in Naga City was purely work-focused despite their past political rivalry.
