Mayon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 as lava flows reached up to 3.8 kilometers (km) from the summit crater, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported on Sunday, Feb. 22.
In its 24-hour observation summary covering 12 a.m. Feb. 21 to 12 a.m. Feb. 22, 2026, the agency said lava flows were recorded in three gullies: Basud (3.8 km), Bonga (2.1 km), and Mi-isi (1.3 km).
Phivolcs logged one volcanic earthquake, 375 rockfall events, and nine pyroclastic density current (PDC) signals during the monitoring period.
Crater glow was described as “fair” and visible to the naked eye, it added.
According to Phivolcs, sulfur dioxide flux measured on Feb. 21 reached 1,271 tonnes per day, while the volcanic plume rose as high as 1,000 meters above the crater with moderate emission drifting southwest and west-southwest.
The agency noted that the ground deformation data also showed that the volcano edifice remains inflated.
Phivolcs reminded the public that entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the risks posed by lava flows, rockfalls, pyroclastic density currents, and other volcanic hazards.
