The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has terminated the employment contract of one of its personnel tagged as the driver of the agency vehicle in the viral counterflow video on social media.
LTFRB chairman Vigor D. Mendoza II said the move was part of the implementation of measures to instill discipline and professionalism among all the personnel of the agency, especially relating to abuse of authority.
“There was a clear violation of the road safety rules and regulations based on the video. We are now looking into it and we assure the public of our immediate action in relation to this incident,” said Mendoza.
Over the weekend, Mendoza ordered the LTFRB-National Capital Region to investigate the viral video that he saw on social media. The driver was later identified and immediately dismissed over the incident.
Mendoza explained that any violation of the road safety rules and regulations will not be tolerated among the LTFRB personnel.
“We do not condone and tolerate this kind of behavior that does not only show abuse of authority but also compromise the safety of all road users,” said Mendoza.
“As public servants, we should be at the frontline of strictly following the law and other rules and regulations. Any attempt to use the authority that we have will certainly affect the perception of the people to their government, and I will not allow that,” he added.
Mendoza said this incident must serve as a lesson to all agency personnel to behave and be role models in following the law.
He also urged the public to report to the LTFRB any case of violation of the law and abuse of authority involving its personnel of the agency.
