ILOILO CITY – Schools here suspended face-to-face classes starting on Wednesday, Feb. 25, for the 40th anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution and meetings of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) economic ministers.
University of the Philippines Visayas (UP Visayas), University of San Agustin (USA), and Central Philippine University (CPU) cancelled classes for the 40th EDSA anniversary.
Mayor Raisa Treñas issued an executive order approving the recommendation of city police chief Police Col. Wilbert Parilla suspending face-to-face classes until Feb. 27 for the meeting.
“This proactive measure is intended to help ease traffic congestion and ensure the safety and security of delegates, residents, and our students during this high-level international gathering,” said Treñas in a statement.
In lieu of face-to-face classes, schools were urged to conduct alternative learning online.
“We ask for the understanding and cooperation of parents, school administrators, and the entire academic community as we work together to ensure a safe, orderly, and successful hosting of this important event for our city and the country,” added the mayor.
