TAYABAS CITY, Quezon – A 39-year-old blogger was found dead in an isolated area in this city on Saturday, Feb. 21.
Police identified the victim as Mark Anthony Atienza. Known as Macoy in his blog, he was also a canvasser who sells various items while roaming the streets.
He was last seen alive by his wife asking permission for a fishing trip at Alitao River in Barangay Lalo. The victim failed to return home, prompting his wife to report him missing to the police on Friday, Feb. 20.
His body was found at about 2 p.m. near the river in Sitio Don Elpidio, Barangay Lalo, four kilometers away from the highway.
Atienza’s hands were tied with black nylon cord, head wrapped with black T-shirt, and mouth gagged with a black cloth, and was buried in a shallow grave.
Police Lt. Col. Elizabeth Capistrano, city police chief, said follow-up investigation is ongoing and they are awaiting the result of post-mortem examination determining cause of death.
