Shear line continues to bring rains over parts of VisMin — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday, Feb. 21, said the shear line—a weather system formed by the interaction of cold northeasterly winds and warm easterly winds—may continue to bring moderate to heavy rains over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao over the next 24 hours.
PAGASA weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia said 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall, considered moderate to heavy, are expected over Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Agusan del Sur.
Scattered rains may also prevail over the rest of Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, the rest of Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Cotabato, South Cotabato, Sarangani, and Sulu.
Residents in areas affected by the shear line are advised to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides.
Meanwhile, de la Cruz-Galicia said the northeast monsoon (amihan) is affecting most of Luzon and the rest of Visayas, bringing cooler temperatures, especially over Northern and Central Luzon.
Cloudy skies with light rains may also prevail over Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and Quezon.
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the rest of Visayas will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light monsoon rains.
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorm activity.
De la Cruz-Galicia said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is being monitored within the Philippine area of responsibility as of Saturday.
Moreover, no gale warning is currently in effect, thus small boats and other sea vessels are safe to sail.
