Senator Robinhood “Robin” Padilla said on Friday, February 20 he is open to run as Vice President Sara Duterte’s running mate if former president Rodrigo Duterte asks him to do so.
Padilla made the statement saying he acknowledges calls from supporters for a possible vice presidential bid in 2028 together with the vice president.
“Kapag inutos ni Digong, susunod ako. Walang pwedeng mag-utos sa akin, kahit sino. Si Digong lang (If former president Duterte orders it, I will follow. No one can dictate on me. Only former president Duterte),” Padilla said in an online interview.
Padilla earlier floated a possible “girl power” tandem with Duterte and Sen. Imee Marcos as her running mate.
According to the senator, he is grateful to supporters floating his name but said that leadership decisions within any political alliance is paramount.
Padilla also said he is also aware of the need to consider experience and existing leadership dynamics, noting that there are others who are “senior” than him.
He cited Senators Marcos, Alan Peter Cayetano, Christopher “Bong” Go and Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa.
“May hierarchy po tayo (We follow a hierarchy),” he said.
Nevertheless, Padilla said he is ready to support the vice president in any capacity even if he will not run for any top government position in the May 2028 elections.
“Kung sino man ang pipiliin, 100 percent tutulong ako (Whoever would be chosen, I will definitely help out, 100 percent),” he said.
