Lady Bulldogs eye third straight win vs Lady Tams

Reigning champion National University tries to keep its record pristine when it battles a gritty Far Eastern University side in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Saturday, Feb. 21.
With rookie sensation Sam Cantada leading the offense, the three-peat seeking Lady Bulldogs aim to continue their winning run to three games against the Lady Tamaraws in their 3 p.m. collision.
Adamson (1-1) and University of the East (0-2), for their parts, seek to bounce back when they tangle at 1 p.m.
The 18-year-old Cantada has been making her presence felt for NU, particularly in their latest 25-23, 25-19, 28-26 triumph over her former school Adamson where she posted 16 points including crucial hits in the third set.
“Sabi ko naman po before the game, ang mindset ko lang ay mag-focus lang ako at gawin ‘yong best ko,” said Cantada, one of the early favorites to win the Rookie of the Year plum.
NU head coach Regine Diego was grateful for Cantada’s presence, optimistic that her young stalwart will grow better.
“Of course, I feel, we feel, and we're very lucky to have Sam with us. And hopefully, she gets to grow with us also. And the fact that she's happy with us makes our hearts beat,” said Diego.
Apart from Cantada, Diego also continues to rely on Vange Alinsug, Arah Panique, Lams Lamina, Chams Maaya, Alexa Mata, Abe Pono and Shaira Jardio.
FEU, fresh from a 25-20, 25-14, 25-14 win over UE, meanwhile, hopes to keep the momentum going with Jaz Ellarina, Gerz Petallo, Lovely Lopez, Faida Bakanke, Cla Loresco, and Tin Ubaldo out to lead the Tina Salak-mentored crew.
In the other pairing, Shaira Nitura and the Falcons try to regain their winning ways against the slumping Lady Warriors, who are suffering their 16th consecutive loss.
Nitura joins forces with Frances Mordi and Fhei Sagaysay against the Lady Warriors’ triumvirate of Khy Cepada, Nessa Bangayan, and Bea Zamudio, who are hoping to cut their string of defeat.
In men’s action, it would be an exciting duel between Season 87 finalists in defending champion, talent-laden NU and bridesmaid FEU at 11 a.m. Both squads are unblemished and target for an early edge.
UE and Adamson open the quadruple header with both teams pushing for a turnaround at 9 a.m.
