CAVITE – A driver has gone viral online after pawning his driver’s license to buy his wife’s medicine at a drug store in Imus City on Valentine’s Day.
Pharmacy aid Jim Soriano posted the interesting encounter with a customer identified as Tatay Moises on social media.
On Feb. 14, Tatay Moises came here hoping he could get medicine on credit and leave his driver’s license as collateral. The medicine was for his wife, who had just been discharged from the hospital),” Soriano told the Manila Bulletin on Friday, Feb. 20.
Pero pilit niya paring sinabi na, ‘Hindi, iiwan ko ‘yan, sir,’ (I agreed because I truly felt sorry for his situation. I did not want to accept his ID since it was his driver’s license. But he insisted, saying, ‘No, sir, I will leave it here').”
Soriano’s TikTok video went viral, garnering more than 15 million views as of writing time.
When Tatay Moises went back to the pharmacy with his wife to pay for the medicine and get his license back on Feb. 16, he was pleasantly surprised.
Several of Soriano’s followers pitched in to help pay the bill. He also bought groceries for the couple and handed over the remaining donation money to them.
It feels very fulfilling to have helped Tatay. It made me realize that someday we will grow old too, and I hope that if we ever find ourselves with nothing, someone will also be there to help us),” Soriano shared.
