The Department of Tourism (DOT) has suspended all Star Rating Classification Assessments for accommodation establishments nationwide pending a review and enhancement of its evaluation system under the 2024 National Accommodation Standards (NAS).
In an advisory, the DOT, through its Office of Tourism Standards and Regulation–Standards Monitoring and Enforcement Division (OTSR-SMED), said the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain until further notice.
All on-site inspections, including re-assessments for previously evaluated properties, will be deferred during the review period.
Applications submitted before the advisory was issued will be given priority once assessments resume.
“We understand the importance of the National Accommodation Standards or the Star Rating Classification Program, and assure everyone that this pause is intended to ensure improved efficiency, transparency, and overall service quality upon resumption,” the DOT said.
While inspections are on hold, the DOT said that its regional offices will continue processing accreditation applications.
The DOT said updates will be issued once the enhanced standards are finalized.
